We seek candidates who can demonstrate excellence in teaching and scholarship, who understand the nature of teaching in a liberal arts setting, who excel at conveying their passion for literature and writing, and who would contribute to Centenary's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Candidates should be prepared to teach in Fiction and Creative Nonfiction writing seminars, our first-year writing courses, and upper-level literature classes. The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching African American and/or Southern literature and working with students on editing and publishing. Candidates should have an earned Ph.D. or M.F.A. by August 2022.
The unique format of the Centenary schedule, where each semester consists of a regular term and an immersion term, allows faculty to be creative in developing departmental and interdisciplinary course offerings, including courses for programs such as Centenary in Paris in the fall or May Immersion classes in the spring. The annual teaching load is 3-3.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teach introductory and upper level courses in English, especially courses with a focus on African American and/or Southern literature first-year and upper-level writing classes (which could include workshops in Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, or Advanced Rhetoric). The normal teaching load is six courses per year or 12 contact hours per semester.
Job duties include:
Teaching introductory and upper-division courses in areas of expertise.
Engaging undergraduate students in legitimate research experiences in the classroom in support of the department’s mission.
Adhering to Centenary College’s rigorous standards for faculty members regarding teaching, service, and scholarship as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.

MINIMUM
Doctorate in related field is required.
Candidates must possess demonstrable skills in, and commitment to, undergraduate teaching and research, as well as a background in relevant disciplines, along with some experience advising and mentoring students.
PREFERRED
Strong undergraduate teaching experience.
Experience with a selective, residential, liberal arts college.
