General Summary
Under limited supervision, directs the operation of outpatient mental health programs which are staffed with multidisciplinary teams. Ensures the provision of comprehensive, integrated, and uninterrupted mental health care to individuals and their families in the hospital and continuity of care in the community. Ensures the demonstration of positive interpersonal relations with patients, families, visitors and co-workers, reflecting commitment to the values and ethics of the profession. Fulfillment of the job duties requires the employee to have access to medication storage areas.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
Provides leadership, guidance and consultation to multidisciplinary mental health teams consisting of nurses, social workers, psychologists, other mental health workers and students.
Maintains quality of patient care and mental health services by direct observation and through supervision of team leaders and support staff.
Implements and monitors quality assurance indicators which may include, clinical supervision, case management assessment procedures, timeliness of diagnostic evaluations, and completeness of assessment procedures.
Provides clinical and administrative supervision including work assignment, training, evaluation and clinical case consultation in accordance with UMMS and departmental policies and procedures. Assists the Manager with recruitment and hiring of multidisciplinary staff and the development of clinic orientation.
Conducts annual performance evaluations of staff and implements corrective action measures when necessary.
Approves requests for leave and arranges for adequate clinical coverage when team members are absent.
Implements personnel policies and counseling around use of leave, absenteeism and employee performance.
What You Need to Be Successful:
Education and Experience
Master's degree from an accredited school of Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, or in any behavioral health-related field, is required. Bachelor's degree with five years general work experience maybe substituted for educational requirement.
Five years' experience in the delivery of mental health services is required. For Baccalaureate candidate, this must be in addition to the work experience used to substitute educational requirement. In addition, two years supervisory experience is preferred.
