Math
The Somerville Center for Adult Learning Experiences (SCALE) is now accepting applications for the position of one part-time morning ABE Math teacher.
Dates: Sept 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023
Schedule
Part Time: Monday and Wednesday mornings, 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon
6 teaching hours and 1.5 preparation hours per week
General Description:
This is a class for three types of students: those who have had minimal exposure to basic math skills; those who need a review of math basics; and those who have math skills in another language but need to master English math vocabulary in order to pass the math HiSET with competence. The class will include both native and nonnative students. The instructor must adhere to CALM, the current CCRS-based math curriculum. The instructor is to prepare engaging, interactive lessons that incorporate multiple intelligences. The instructor is responsible for keeping daily attendance records, as well as, regular progress reports.
Instructor is expected to participate in scheduled staff meetings and staff development activities throughout the year.
Responsibilities Include:
Plan, prepare and submit monthly lesson plans in accordance with collective bargaining agreement
Participate in department meetings
Participate in department CCR activities
Attend staff development activities related to position and department goals
Evaluate student progress and make placement recommendations.
Complete attendance records and assessment–related activities
Follow department policy/procedures, including substitute lesson plans
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree; a Master’s in math/education or adult literacy is preferred
Three years experience teaching math (ideally to adults), preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of learner-centered teaching strategies for teaching math
Experience with computer-based programs and online resources
Experience with digital literacy
Math assessments, project-based learning experience is preferred
MA Teacher Certification is preferred
